Colours of the Canadian Fall Itinerary
Day 1
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Toronto. On arrival we transfer to the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (4T) or Chelsea Hotel (3T) for three nights.
Day 2
This morning a sightseeing tour introduces us to Toronto, including views of some of the glistening skyscrapers and contrasting 19th century buildings. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this friendly, multicultural city independently; don’t miss the fantastic views from the dizzying observation deck of the CN Tower, with a partly-glazed floor for a fuller view of the city over 340m below. With an evening free, you may wish to consider taking in a show, listen to some live music or enjoy one of the many restaurants.
Day 3
Spend today in awe of magnificent Niagara Falls and its surrounding beauty. Appreciate its power as you cruise as close as possible aboard the Hornblower and feel the mist on your face. Lunch is included at Queen Victoria Place Restaurant, boasting great views of both the American and Horseshoe Falls, for an unforgettable dining experience. We continue to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a pretty, well-preserved 19th century village which became the first capital of Ontario in 1792 and played a central role in the Anglo-American War of 1812, before returning to Toronto and our hotel.
Day 4
We depart Toronto and follow the north shore of Lake Ontario to Kingston. We have free time for lunch before we visit Fort Henry to experience life in the year of Canada's Confederation, 1867. As a 19th century British military fortress, it has played a part in wars since 1812 through to World War II. We continue to our hotel for tonight, the Residence Inn by Marriott (4T).
Day 5
We start our explorations from Rockport, enjoy a relaxing cruise of the Thousand Islands, an archipelago of 1,864 islands stretching 50 miles from the northeast corner of the Great Lake and varying from small uninhabited outcroppings to over 40 square miles in size. We have spare time in the town before continuing to the Thousand Islands Tower for a panoramic view of the Thousand Islands and St Lawrence River, stretched out 130m below, a spectacular photographic opportunity. This afternoon we also enjoy a visit to Jones Falls, one of 24 lock stations along the Rideau Canal. We finish in Ottawa and our hotel for two nights, The Westin Ottawa (4T) or Delta Hotels by Marriott Ottawa City Centre (4T).
Day 6
A morning city tour of Ottawa will take you to some of the capital’s many historic landmarks and beautiful heritage buildings. Visit the Bytown Museum to learn more of the city from its early days as Bytown to the present. The museum also pays homage to Lieutenant Colonel John By, who oversaw the construction of the Rideau Canal. After a stop to purchase lunch, we take a cruise on the Ottawa River.
Day 7
Today we take a scenic drive via the Algonquin Provincial Park to visit to the Algonquin Logging Museum. We have an included guided ‘autumn colours’ walk through the western park and a self-guided tour of the visitor centre. Comprising 2,955 square miles, with over 2,400 lakes and 745 miles of rivers, the park’s wide variety of environments support an uncommon diversity of plant and animal species. We then continue on to Huntsville and spend the next two nights at the Hidden Valley Resort (3T+) or Deerhurst Resort (4T).
Day 8
A day at leisure in Algonquin Provincial Park, with opportunities to either explore the park further.
Day 9
There is time to explore Muskoka, an unforgettable place to visit, before we continue to Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh for a guided farm tour highlighting the story of the cranberries, from peat bog to delicious wine. Learn of the history and uniqueness of cranberry cultivation and enjoy a tasting of the award-winning cranberry wine. We continue to Blue Mountain Village, where we spend two nights at the Westin Trillium House (4T+).
Day 10
This morning we see one of Canada’s great natural wonders - the Scenic Caves. This area, full of caves and caverns created by glacial ice, was once the home of the Deer Tribe. Our explorations take us across a suspension bridge - the longest in Southern Ontario, and wide enough two walk two abreast, it offers spectacular views across Blue Mountain, Georgian Bay and, if the weather allows, the distant shores of Christian Island and the Penetanguishene Peninsula. We enjoy lunch before taking the Gondola up into the mountains for more fantastic scenery.
Day 11
En route to Toronto, we visit Ontario’s first European Community, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. This was the headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to spread Catholicism to the Huron Wendat people. In 1639, the Jesuits began construction of a fenced community that included barracks, a church, workshops and residences. It became a wilderness home to 66 French men, representing one-fifth of the entire population of New France. Sainte-Marie's brief history ended in 1649, when members of the mission community were forced to abandon and burn their homes, which have been carefully reconstructed. We then transfer to the airport for your overnight return flight to the UK.
Day 12
Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
