Hidden Wonders of Myanmar with Inle Lake Itinerary
Day 1: Depart London
Make your way to London Heathrow for your flight to Myanmar.
Day 2: Arrive Mandalay, Embark Ship
Upon arrival into Yangon, board an included flight to Mandalay. Be met on arrival and transfer to the Irrawaddy River, where your luxurious ship awaits. Later on, visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda and the Shwenandaw Monastery. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner and onboard cultural show from the Mandalay Fine Art School. Day 3: Mingun, Mandalay, Amarapura
Cruise to Mingun and explore the massive ruins of Pathodawgyi (Unfinished Pagoda). You’ll also see the towering bronze bell and admire the Myatheindan Pagoda. Back in Mandalay, visit the Mahamuni Buddha. This afternoon, travel to Amarapura for a silk workshop, as well as the famed U-Bein Bridge.
Day 4: Sagaing
Disembark in Sagaing, the former Royal capital, and visit the Soon Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda for breathtaking views. After, visit a silversmith workshop.
Day 5: Yandabo, Pakokku
Today, see a pottery-making demonstration by local artisans in Yandabo. After lunch on board, travel to Pakokku for a series of traditional local workshops.
Day 6: Bagan
This morning, journey to New Bagan and experience a cultural elephant dance before visiting a lacquerware workshop. You’ll then explore some of the stunning temples including the well-preserved Ananda Temple, commonly known as the ‘Westminster Abbey of Myanmar’.
Day 7: Bagan, Salay
You have the option to rise early and experience a bird’s-eye view of the stunning plains of Bagan aboard a hot air balloon (at additional cost). After your choice of included sightseeing, continue your cruise towards Salay. In the afternoon, visit Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region’s oldest surviving wooden monastery, and the Mann Paya Pagoda, home to Myanmar’s largest lacquer Buddha.
Day 8: Magwe
Enjoy a morning at leisure before visiting the golden Mya Tha Lun Pagoda in Magwe. You will also take a trip to a Buddhist Nunnery. Afterwards, explore the downtown area.
Day 9: Magwe, Disembark Ship, Yangon
Disembark your ship and board your included charter flight to Yangon. Take a short stroll to Sule Pagoda and Pansoden Street. Tonight’s dinner is served at a local restaurant. Accommodation: Two Nights, Yangon, Sule Shangri-La Hotel
Day 10: Yangon
Take a short ferry ride to the rural village of Dala. Hop on a trishaw and visit a candle-making workshop to observe this traditional art. After lunch, enjoy your choice of included sightseeing. Later, one of the world’s most famous pagodas awaits – the Shwedagon Pagoda. No visit to Yangon is complete without gazing in awe at this golden masterpiece. Tonight, enjoy a Farewell Dinner at your hotel.
Day 11: Yangon, Heho, Inle Lake
Transfer to the airport for your included flight to Heho, where you’ll then set off to explore a local family-run workshop famous for making Shan paper. Afterwards, travel to the small town of Nyaung Shwe situated on the edge of Inle Lake. You’ll then transfer to your hotel, where the remainder of the day is yours to relax. Day 12: Inle Lake
Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, which houses five small golden Buddha images. Continue to Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery on the lake. It’s then time for a special dining experience at Inthar Heritage Restaurant. The owners have utilised their old family recipes to offer you a modern twist on the region’s cuisine. Following lunch, visit some of the local manufacturing workshops in the area including a silk factory, which is unique to the region as they use the silk spun from the stem of a lotus flower.
Day 13: Inle Lake
Board a local boat and cruise past the floating gardens. You may even spot the local fisherman using the iconic one-legged fishing technique. Then travel to Indein Village to see the Shwe Indein Pagoda. Traverse narrow canals, gliding by paddy fields along the river banks. A gentle walk up a hill will bring you to hundreds of ancient stupas. You’ll also have the time for some retail therapy with a stop at a local market on your way back to your boat. After lunch, visit a local manufacturing workshop and perhaps meet some people from the Padaung Tribe, known for the women wearing the brass coils around their necks. Return to your hotel to take in a final sunset over Inle Lake before your farewell dinner.
Day 14: Inle Lake, Heho, Depart Yangon
Board a coach to Heho, where an included flight returns you to Yangon for your onward flight to the UK.
Day 15: Arrive London
Arrive back in London.
