Christmas on the Danube Itinerary

• Day 1

  Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Munich. On arrival, we transfer to Passau and embark MS Amadeus Star (4-star). Enjoy a welcome cocktail reception and dinner on board this evening. We remain moored here overnight.

• Day 2

  We enjoy an included excursion to Salzburg, the city made famous by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born here. As we explore, you will find his life and work commemorated all over the city. The old quarter of Salzburg with its world-famous Baroque architecture was adopted by UNESCO in 1997 as a World Heritage Site. You will also be able to visit Salzburg’s Christmas market, the perfect setting to get in the festive mood as you browse the colourful traditional gifts on sale and sample the festive local delicacies with a mug of Glühwein. There will then be time to visit another Christmas market in Linz. We rejoin the ship in Linz before dinner. We set sail later this evening.

• Day 3

  This morning we arrive in the pretty wine-growing town of Melk, to explore its huge Baroque abbey, a cultural treasure which was a fortified Roman post and then a magnificent castle before it was given to the Benedictines in 1089. We enjoy a Glühwein (mulled wine) party, before leaving Emmersdorf this afternoon for Dürnstein. This evening we enjoy a Christmas celebration on board with the opportunity to attend a Christmas Mass in Dürnstein.

• Day 4

  We arrive in Vienna this morning where we enjoy an included sightseeing tour of Vienna’s most important sights, taking you along the Ringstrasse, into the Schwarzenbergplatz, passing by Karlskirche and Vienna’s stunning opera house. Vienna is Austria’s most important cultural city, with international treasures including the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, plus many celebrated resident composers including Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn. The last stop is at the city’s famous St Stephen’s cathedral, with time to explore inside. This afternoon there is an optional excursion to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace for an insight into the imperial monarchy.

• Day 5

  We arrive this morning in Bratislava where there will be an included tour covering the city’s major sights, including breathtaking views from Bratislava’s 13th century castle over countryside where the frontiers of Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia meet. As well as the preserved monuments created by a list of inhabiting nations over millennia, Bratislava has introduced a mix of modern structures and interesting statues since its independence in 1993. The vessel leaves Bratislava during lunch, which is followed by a relaxed afternoon cruising upstream through Austria. Enjoy a captain’s gala dinner this evening.

• Day 6

  This morning the ship continues to Linz, Austria’s third largest city and a former European Capital of Culture. We take an afternoon walking tour to discover the city’s unique story and learn about the well-known personalities who have made an impact on the city. Enjoy a little free time to enjoy the festive traditions. Maybe see the crib of the cathedral, famed for being one of the largest and most beautiful in the world, and try some delicious Linzer Torte. After dinner the vessel continues upstream towards Germany.

• Day 7

  We arrive this morning in Passau where we disembark and transfer to Munich Airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
