Tasmania's Footsteps and Trails Itinerary

  • Day 1 Arrive Launceston

Your immersive cultural encounter with Tasmania begins in sophisticated Launceston, one of Australia's oldest cities. On arrival, you'll be taken by private transfer to your hotel with free time this afternoon (flights to arrive prior to 3pm). Recover from your journey or take a step back in time and stroll along the city's leafy avenues lined with beautifully preserved Victorian façades. Later, you'll meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception. Meals: Welcome Reception Locations: Launceston (TAS)

  • Day 2 The Wukalina Three Day Hike (2 Nights)

'Dive into Culture' and go on a journey with a 'Local Specialist' through the epic natural landscape of the Bay of Fires (larapuna) and Mt. William (wukalina). This Aboriginal-owned and operated hike will reveal the captivating community history and culture of the indigenous palawa people in their cultural homeland. You'll tread in the footsteps of this ancient community and connect with traditions that have been passed down for hundreds of generations, all while admiring the rugged natural beauty of northeast Tasmania. Spend two nights on the trail at one of Trafalgar's most unusual 'Stays With Stories' - a palawa-style domed hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Locations: Bay of Fires

  • Day 3 The Wukalina Two Day Hike

Continue your hike through the Tasmanian bush and across boulder-strewn beaches as you connect with the stories and living culture of your palawa hosts. Keep a keen eye out for kangaroos amidst the gleaming grasslands and delve into an ancient way of life - one that relies almost entirely on the bounties of nature for its existence. • Day 4 Bay of Fires - Freycinet

Your memorable encounter with the palawa comes to an end after breakfast and you'll board a vehicle for a scenic drive along the coast to Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park. Your reward for two days on the trail will be an afternoon of relaxation at your waterfront resort with the pink granite peaks of the Hazards and ocean views around every turn. You may not be able to resist the allure of the area's natural beauty, choosing instead to explore secluded coves or hike up to the lookout point for panoramic views of Wineglass Bay or take a gentle walk around the cape Tourville Lighthouse. This evening, the sounds of the Tasman Sea provide the perfect backdrop for a sumptuous group dinner. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Locations: Freycinet, Freycinet

  • Day 5 Art Meets Wine Experience - Hobart (2 Nights)

A leisurely start to the day sees us continue to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), for a 'Connect With Locals' experience where art meets wine. Take a journey into a world of fantasy and fascination as you explore Australia's largest privately owned gallery and museum showcasing the diverse collection of Tasmanian gambler and maths nerd David Walsh. Sharing its river-front location is the Moorilla Winery and Vineyard where you'll enjoy an exclusive 'Be My Guest' lunch of seasonal local produce and wine. Embark on a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery, delving into its backstory with a 'Local Specialist'. Learn about the finer points of old and new artisanal wine-making techniques, then tease your taste buds with a wine-tasting experience that will showcase 10 different Moorilla wines. After a day of unusual art and magnificent wines, you'll take the MONA ROMA ferry down river to Hobart's Constitution Dock, from where it's just a short stroll to one of the city's hottest five-star hotels and your home for the next two nights. Meals: Breakfast, Be My Guest Locations: Hobart (TAS)

Then cruise along alongside towering cliffs and into deep sea caves, keeping your eyes on the water for seals, dolphins and whales in season. The fresh sea air will do wonders for your appetite and you'll return to land for lunch. Before the sun sets, return to Hobart for a Farewell Dinner celebration with new friends at the Old Wharf Restaurant, reflective of the city's gritty industrial heritage.
